Chateau Puybarbe

Three parallel lines of hills that dominate the right bank of the Gironde estuary facing Margaux, in the Medoc, define Côtes de Bourg, one of the most historic AOCs of Bordeaux, an utterly intriguing area known as “Gironde’s little Switzerland.” The appellation lies 35 km northeast of Bordeaux, on the right bank of the estuary, with the village of Bourg-sur-Gironde at its centre.
Château Puybarbe rises above one of the highest points on the third ridgeline, offering a panoramic view out over the regions of Bourg and Bordeaux.
Its ancient origins are attested to by inscriptions on the very walls of the Château: “Peubarbe, Count of Savignac - Gironde 15th century,” proof of its ownership by one of the area’s noble families. In nearer times, since 1895, Château Puybarbe was the property of the Orlandi family, which recently sold it to Riku and Anna Väänänen, its current wine-passionate owners.
