This rich, aristocratic red, grown in the Principovac denomination in eastern Croatia, is made from a late-harvested selection of Traminac from the vineyard surrounding the ancient hunting lodge of the Prince Odescalchi family, owners of the Ilok estate from 1700 to 1947. The 1947 vintage of this wine was served at the coronation festivities of Queen Elizabeth II in 1957.
This Traminac appears dense and near opaque, with fine varietal character on the nose. Rich and full-bodied, it has just a touch of residual sugar, all of which makes it a superb partner with lighter meats and medium-aged cheeses.
