This selected Traminac, from the Vukovo denomination, in eastern Croatia, is made from the long-cultivated local variety of the Roter Traminer, widespread in this region.
It appears a greenish-tinged straw yellow. A rich, emphatic nose delivers intense aromas of pear and apple, and tropical blossoms, along with lychee and spices. In the mouth, it is crisp, dry, and full-flavoured, with a fine overall balance.
Immediately approachable, it will give its best when partnered with savoury, well-spiced dishes, for example risotto with mushrooms or truffles. It is wonderful with lightly smoked cheeses and with baked or roasted lighter meats. And try it with onion soup.
